When a Woman Shines Her Love on You Kenn Amdahl If you think that you understand You just don’t know how the game is played She’ll turn and smile and touch your hand There won’t be a word that you can say You can say that you’ll use your mind But it’s your heart that you’re bound to lose Her kiss is gonna strike you blind When a woman shines her love on you. You can run around and spend your time Chasing pretty faces in the crowd. They’ll just laugh at you, they know your kind They’ll watch you thrash and flail and let you drown But when a woman sees a man she likes That’s a horserace of a different hue You’ll be on the floor without a fight When a woman shines her love on you. Doesn’t matter if you’re rich or smart Young or old, it’s all the same Read your lines and you play your part And bow your head when she says your name. You may think that you’re made of steel, Immune to magic and too old to care No feelings that you want to feel No secrets that you need to share. But there is someone who will see through that Who’ll make you smile when you’re feeling blue You just follow and don’t look back When a woman shines her love on you.

Little Bit Left in the Bottle Kenn Amdahl Ooh the little bit left in the bottle Gonna make you feel alright Oh, the little bit left in the bottle Gonna make it last all night Smoke and fire by the railroad track Burns your eyes while it warms your back Listen to the men in the ragged clothes The stories linger, the faces come and go. This morning’s news is pale and thin Inside your shirt it helps block the wind You watch the cars on the overpass Driving home and they’re driving fast You say the words you don’t believe: “Appearances they can deceive” Well, it’s true: they’ll think I’m you How much bad luck could you stand Before you shiver where I am? Well you’ll see: they’ll think you’re me. The darkness gives and the darkness steals You never know what the night conceals Live on edge and die alone Spend your days reinventing home.

Morning Take Me Kenn Amdahl My woman took a trip I told her take a tiny talisman To keep the evil spirits away But when she left, she made a slip She slipped the tiny talisman Beneath my door before she went away The evil spirit in a woman’s heart is hard to understand She’ll stand and laugh until a man can lose his mind My woman’s gone, the boat she’s on Headed for the Caribbean Find all the evil spirits she can find Morning take me down to the water River take me away. Morning take me down to the water River take me away. Don’t it seem natural when you love a woman She should love you back Don’t it seem right she’d want to treat you good? But the women like to look around Can’t be content with what they found A woman’s heart is made of mango wood You do the best you can do Then a river boat will take her away from you Morning take me down to the water River take me away. Morning take me down to the water River take me away. I loved my lady like I love my life but my lady Loved me back just likes a lizard likes a snake I gave her all my money, sweetened up her tea with honey She hit me with a wet fish in the face She left me flat, she left me cold She left no note upon my door She left me crying, trying to find my mistake My woman’s gone, the boat she’s on Is heading for some Caribbean City of young men down by a lake Morning take me down to the water River take me away. Morning take me down to the water River take me away.

Floating 03:12
Floating Kenn Amdahl Floating, no controlling, slowly rolling round and round Flying without trying and there is no light or sound Time is just a box we travel through while we are lost Life is just a place we visit on our way through space. Falling, we’re all falling, no one calling out your name Rising, realizing that the two are much the same Time is just a box we travel through while we are lost Life is just a place we visit on our way through space. Sleeping, we’re all sleeping and we don’t know how to wake Dreaming is just seeing all the choices we may make. Time is just a box we travel through while we are lost Life is just a place we visit on our way through space.

Tarantula 03:16
Tarantula Kenn Amdahl Tarantula walking on the desert sand He doesn’t see the sun and he doesn’t see the man Doesn’t need to think to understand The darkness that is coming Thirsty, thirsty—give me water, I’m dying Pleading mercy, I’m alive like you and crying please--- I’m just thirsty My legs can’t crawl up a spider cage I crawl round and round but there is no shade Can’t escape but I will not stay And the world goes turning round me Lonely, aching, is there no one here who hears me? All your sounds are laughter but I see your eyes fear me And I’m just thirsty. Middle of the day and there is no sun There’s just one dance I’ve never done Can’t explain but the time has come And the aching turns to burning. Slowly swaying, all my legs constrict around me Wind is playing the spider death dance and I say I’m free From being thirsty.

Jooky Jango 03:13
Jooky Jango Kenn Amdahl Polly got a pretty good pile of papayas Molly got many, many mangoes Pretty Louise she’s got no fruit to squeeze But if you ask her pretty please she might tango Sister MaryAnne sells shrimp in a pan Johnny got a ukele-banjo He’ll play you a verse, but he knows what it’s worth He wants that jooky jooky jooky jooky jango. Jook jooky jooky jango Jook jooky jooky jango Jook jooky jooky jango Jooky jooky jooky jooky jango Now if you come down there’s A market in the town square Buy anything you can imagine A T shirt or banana, a lemur or a yam A hook or book or Cadillac sedan fin They love it when you shop You can bargain til you drop But no matter what direction you go The prices are elastic But they do not care for plastic They like jooky jooky jooky jooky jango.

Seven White Horses Kenn Amdahl Seven white horses flying through the night Seven white horses dancing with delight A black coach creaking as it rattles down the road Seven white horses will carry me home. Well I was born on the outskirts of some godforsaken town With the wind whistling round me and the rain drizzling down. The gypsy girl who found me said, “Baby don’t you cry I know your mama was the earth and your daddy was the sky.” Well I’ve been drunk at midnight and I’ve been stoned at noon I’ve been broke and out of work but then I’ve been in love too I’ve been lucky as the Devil, I’ve been burned down to my bones But there’s seven white horses will carry me home. Won’t you tell all my friends on the streets when I die I lived the life I wanted, I didn’t let too much slip by You can mourn if you want to, you can cry if you’re alone But there’s seven white horses will carry me home.

Stars Won’t Speak Kenn Amdahl The stars won’t speak and the moon won’t glow The clouds are lost and I’m far below The night’ll wonder but it won’t know What to do Without you. Wild wind dance and shout The candle flickers I blow it out Voices whisper in my ear I close my eyes and pretend you’re here The fire died and in its place There’s just a wisp of smoke and I see your face It’s cold, cold, everywhere I close my eyes and I don’t care. Now when I dream I leave this place I’m with the stars out in space There is no path, there is no plan You call my name and you hold my hand But when I wake there’s only snow It burns my eyes and I’m all alone I can’t talk, I can’t move I can’t make my mind let go of you.

Last Month of the Year Kenn Amdahl We got no snow, got no ice No sleigh bell here in paradise But holiday is a state of mind It’s the last month of the year. Sing a Christmas song if you know one Down at the beach build a wet-sand snowman Sail on your boat til you can’t see land The last month of the year. It’s the last month of the year, It’s the last month of the year It’s the last month of the year It’s the last month of the year. Sing a song with all your spirit You’re gonna find joy when you give it And it’s growing, don’t you feel it Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Everywhere you go Everywhere I go Everywhere we go You got to pay for the piper fill your cup Find a pretty girl, give her a hug Dance with a child wear out the rug It’s the last month of the year. When we meet on the street won’t you shake my hand Let’s laugh out loud while we can When you get a little older you’ll understand The last month of the year.
